Premiere | Cassie Latshaw: Misery
Cassie Latshaw doesn’t have your typical background. She grew up on an exotic animal farm near Bristow, Oklahoma and was opening for artists like Ray Price and Sammy Smith before the age of 12. These days she’s a realtor by day and songwriter at night, regularly appearing on stage at well-known venues like the Mercury Lounge in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Today, The Amp is lucky enough to be premiering her new video for the single, “Misery.” Cassie, like many artists during the pandemic, drew on the collective feeling of despair and shared misery throughout this weird and utterly awful time for this song. From the first note we see Latshaw in a tight, up-close shot, gold-rimmed glasses gleaming around her intense gaze. As the tempo soars, so does Cassie’s voice. The starkness of the background highlights Latshaw and her band, while putting the focus on the bluesy-rock vibe that is “Misery.” At the halfway mark of the song, it’s hard to decide which to concentrate on, the fiery guitar solo, or Latshaw dancing in the background. You can’t go wrong with either. Joining her in the video is a veritable who’s who of Okie musicians, including Andrew Blair on keys, Paul Wilkes on bass, Josh Westbrook on guitar and Matt Teagarden and Jake Lynn on drums. The title of the single may be “Misery”, but listening to Cassie is anything but.
If you’re left wanting more of Cassie, fear not, she’s got more music coming soon. In the meantime, you’ll have to catch her in a dive bar near you.
