Tower Theatre: Live Stream From Ponyboy

Tower Theatre: Live Stream From Ponyboy

In the wake of the current pandemic and “social distancing,” bars and music venues across the state of Oklahoma have been forced to close their doors. Executive orders have been put in place by mayors of cities, both large and small, restricting gatherings of 10 people or more in public areas all across the United States. This has placed a tremendous strain on these businesses as well as those who work in the music industry. The Tower Theatre in Oklahoma City, while closed, is keeping the stage open for musicians at it’s upstairs bar, Ponyboy.

Introducing Live Stream from Ponyboy, a live broadcast from the historic Uptown 23rd, featuring performances from your favorite local artists.

The first stream will feature OKC rapper Jabee. The Talented Hip Hop artist has received much praise from others in the industry such as Chuck D. from Public Enemy. Jabee received the Oklahoma Gazette’s Woody Award for Best Hip Hop in 2007 and 2009, the Oklahoma Street Music Award for Album of the Year (Blood is the New Black) in 2009, and in 2010 was recognized by URB magazine as an Artist to Watch. Jabee will take the Ponyboy stage at 8PM on Thursday March 19. Event details can be found here: bit.ly/3a0QQMz

The “Queen of Oklahoma” Carter Sampson Trio will take the Ponyboy stage at 8PM on Friday, March 20. Sampson tours nationally and internationally with her trio and band. Sampson has released five studio albums including her newest release LUCKY, recorded with Jason Scott in Moore, OK. Sampson’s 2016 release Wilder Side received international attention and was No. 3 on the Euro Americana year end chart for 2016. She is the founder and director of The Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls OKC, a nonprofit volunteer run organization that empowers girls through music education. Carter Sampson’s touring schedule, like most, has been halted due to the current quarantine from the Coronavirus pandemic. Check out the event details here and support this show: bit.ly/39YSyOo

Tyson Meade | Photo By Chris Landsberger

Tyson Meade, former lead singer of Oklahoma City’s Chainsaw Kittens and Defenestration, hailed by many as an “alt-rock godfather,” takes the Ponyboy stage on Saturday, March 21. Through the years, Meade—and his legendary three-octave voice—has toured with Iggy Pop, Smashing Pumpkins, Jane’s Addiction, the Meat Puppets, and many others. In addition to his solo work, he has led two influential bands: In the 1980s, he fronted cult-favorite Defenestration (Kurt Cobain credited them as an influence on Nirvana), and he got even more notice in the ’90s with the glam-rock Chainsaw Kittens (Iggy Pop and Smashing Pumpkins were fans). The latter group predated and outlasted the other 1990s alternative rock acts with its energetic blend of glam-damaged energy, theatrical extremity, and punk rock basics.
