Chris Knight: Tower Theatre
The Tower Theatre in Oklahoma City was transformed into a large listening room for the seated concert featuring one of the best singer/songwriters in the music business, Chris Knight. The evening also featured an opening set performed by some of the best talent that Oklahoma has to offer. Chris Jones, Isaac Stalling, and Ken Pomeroy drew the crowd in with their mesmerizing harmonies, brilliant lyrics, and adept guitar work.
The night began with Chris Jones and his bandmate, Isaac Stalling, on lead acoustic guitar, from Chris Jones and the Flycatchers. They were joined on stage by the very talented Ken Pomeroy, who complimented Jones all set long with their extraordinary harmonies. The eight-song set included a fantastic cover of Jason Isbell’s, “Traveling Alone, along with three brand new singles from their highly anticipated, debut album, to be released in early October. “College Dropout,” “In the Throes,” and the most recent single released, “Expectations,” were featured during the set. All three of these tunes will be on the upcoming album, set to release on October 4th. Ken Pomeroy, who recently just celebrated her seventeenth birthday, is already a veteran within the Oklahoma music scene. She has played Mile 0 festival in Key West, Florida, the past two years, has won the Jimmy LaFave Songwriting Contest in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and has attended Folk Alliance International. Pomeroy, Stalling, and Jones are the future of Oklahoma music and are well on their way in the right direction to becoming well-known names within the state of Oklahoma and beyond. The sky is the limit for these phenomenal young artists.
The expert singer/songwriter Chris Knight kicked off his Tower Theater set with “Becky’s Bible.” The tune was released as a single from his 2001 album, A Pretty Good Guy. The tune is a co-write with Ripley, Oklahoma, native Jason Savory. Knight would also feature “I Am William Callahan,” from his upcoming album, Almost Daylight, his first new recording in over seven years. The legendary songwriter went through his catalogue of tunes featuring, “Hello Old Man,” Crooked Mile,” “Up From The Hill,” “Oil Patch Town,” “Down The River” and “Hard Candy.” Knight provided little interaction with the crowd, instead choosing to navigate from one song right into the next. He did however, stop a few times to deliver some of his dry humor and speak about his album already being available for purchase on his current tour.
Chris Knight is back. His upcoming album, Almost Daylight, is produced, mixed and mastered by Grammy-winner Ray Kennedy, featuring Dan Baird, Chris Clark, Siobhan Kennedy and Lee Ann Womack. For the past twenty year, Chris Knight has made music his own way. Almost Daylight is exactly that. OKR has been listening to this album and we will have a full review soon.
