Premiere - Caleb Klauder & Reeb Willms: Gold in Your Pocket

Our song premiere today on The Amp is a happy little bit of sunshine to brighten your Tuesday. It’s “Gold in Your Pocket,” the title track from the upcoming album by Washington state duo Caleb Klauder and Reeb Willms.

Set to a jaunty, shuffling beat, “Gold in Your Pocket” is an ode to friendship, sort of a Hank Williams “You’ve Got a Friend” with a playful fiddle and pedal steel trading licks throughout.

"This song comes from a place of giving support to someone you love, someone who is maybe struggling with some part of their life,” Klauder said. “I think of it as a love song to your partner or someone you want to be there for in times of difficulty.”

Heck, if someone you love is going through some things, send them this video. Wouldn’t you love to hear this from a friend? “I’ll be gold in your pocket / I’ll be water in your well / I’ll be sunshine in your daydream / I’ll be your victory bell.”

The song, Klauder says, was inspired by a Maurice Sendak drawing of a lion and dog that’s hung on the wall of his mom’s house for four decades. That’s reflected in the opening lines: “Are you lion or a puppy, are you meek as a lamb / Does the world bid you trouble, is it hard to understand / If you try when you’re weary, to raise up your chin / You can lean on me darlin’ and gently settle in.”

Two other songs from the album, “He’s Gone” and “All About Love,” have already been released.

The album is due out Nov. 15 on Free Dirt Records.
