Will Evans: After the Burnt Out Sun
I’m not sure any one musician should be allowed to be this talented. Will Evans practically single-handedly delivers a one of a kind spiritual uplifting revival that will leave you in awe, recharge your soul and renew your appreciation for all that this world holds.
Rhode Island-based, Will Evans has spent the last decade of his life as the frontman for New England Roots Rock band Barefoot Truth. “One of the best bands you’ve probably never heard of,” and if you have in fact heard of BFT then head directly to “Northeast Kingdom” which could easily be my favorite song on the album.
Oddly, this song seemed out of place until I stumbled upon a YouTube video of Barefoot Truth’s, “‘Roll If You Fall’ Live at Infinity Hall.” As soon as I heard it, it clicked and it all made sense.
For those that are fans of his other three full length albums or attended one of his many sold out shows, then you are no doubt familiar with his skills as a multi-instrumentalist. For the uninitiated, Evans displays technical mastery of live-looping in his shows that include the didgeridoo, “hand pan” drum, percussive beatboxing, acoustic guitar, and layers of soulful vocals.
With the exception of a couple of tracks, it’s Will Evans on vocals, Will Evans on drums, Will Evans on guitar, Will Evans on — I think you get the point.
Will Evans has shared the stage with many top artists, including Crosby & Nash, Grace Potter, Bruce Hornsby, Rusted Root, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Trevor Hall, Xavier Rudd, Donavon Frankenreiter, Six60, Ryan Montbleau, Railroad Earth, and members of Dispatch.
Forget my recommendation and just start at the beginning with “On The Run” and let this album breathe new life into your heart and soul. Will Evans delivers a wonderfully authentic inspirational journey through time that began shortly after the birth of his daughter, Hazy Rose, the summer of 2019. You can feel his exuberance and love for her throughout.
Despite his new found joy he also faced darkness and pain. The song “Heavy Water” seems to provide a lens into his struggles along the way. Time, reflection and introspection led Will Evans to new found revelations which he graciously shares with us. He energetically exudes a jubilantly bright light and reveals personal truths that underpin his worldview and serves as an extraordinarily illuminating guide for others.
“Every moment of light and dark is a miracle.” ~ Walt Whitman
After The Burnt Out Sun consists of 16 songs. The first six songs have been released on the Spirit EP and “Breathe (Exhale)” and “Stars” were previously released as singles. However, they have seemingly been redone and brighter. I’m not sure if you can upgrade a song, so “brighter” it is.
Other can’t miss new tracks include “Messenger,” “Kind Folk” and “Circles Around The Sun.”
