Dylan Earl: "I Saw the Arkansas"
Love songs can be a powerful conveyor. They are usually written about someone or for someone: whether you are trying to show them your appreciation or articulate a realization. But who said that love songs are only for people? In the latest album from Dylan Earl, he expresses the love he has for his home state of Arkansas. Today, Dylan is releasing the title track from his third full length album, I Saw the Arkansas. The full album is set for release on March 10th from independent label Gar Hole Records.
Although born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Dylan Earl grew up in The Natural State of Arkansas and considers it his “true home.” Earl finds joy in being a traveling music man, but finds he is most grounded and experiences ultimate happiness when he’s at home nestled between the Ozark Mountains, the Ouachita Mountains and the Arkansas River in the northeastern portion of the peaceful, yet rugged state.
The single, “I Saw the Arkansas,” is a folk song waltz. Dylan’s tender baritone tells the story about a recurring dream where the Arkansas traveller and Arkansas poet, Frank Stanford, return to their home to spend their eternities. Dylan makes it clear that when the day comes, he will die in his “true home” of Arkansas; an accident would be the only reason he wouldn’t otherwise. The song captures the feelings he has for the natural beauty of his home state. The imagery of the lyrics and the title suggest a peaceful and fond return to Arkansas or even just the sight of the Arkansas River as they descend upon their native land.
Gar Hole Records and Dylan Earl joined with the Wyoming team from Western As Fuck to film an on-site video for “I Saw the Arkansas.” The video was created at the home of friend, singer-songwriter and fellow Arkansan, Bonnie Montgomery.
