1. What was your greatest takeaway working with Merle Haggard?

His parents and family really instilled in him to be a good and hardworking person. He always carried that with him, so I think that’s the biggest takeaway I have from him.

2. In a time like this that's unprecedented, how are you coping with the shutdown and lack of being able to perform, or even get out socially?

I try to find happiness and joy every day, even in the small things. There are so many industries and people that have been affected by the pandemic. At the end of the day, though, I try to remember that the human spirit is indomitable and we will all get through this!

3. Tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind "Big Boy Up"?

Well, I remember my mother saying to my brother, ‘Ok now, big boy up’ as she was trying to encourage him to climb into the car. I also heard former Dallas Cowboys player and ESPN radio broadcaster Nate Newton say, ‘this is big boy football and the Dallas Cowboys have to realize that. They have to put their big boy pants on.’ I thought the phrase was so catchy and just needed to be in a song.

 4. Who are some female musicians that inspire you?

I have to start with a fellow Okie, Reba, she is definitely an inspiration and a powerhouse. There’s nothing she can't do. Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey, Tammy Wynette, Barbara Mandrell, Rita Coolidge, to name a few, there’s so many talented women in country music.

5. What do you turn to or where do you go for inspiration for your writing?

I ask the Lord everyday to give me songs and melodies, and he does. I ask Him for guidance when choosing songs as well.

6. What is one thing that you think people don't know about you that they should, either musically or personally?

Merle greatly affected my music and taught me so much in that aspect, but he also taught me to be honest not only in my music but also as a person. I think that’s so important and has always stuck with me.

7. What is your favorite song on your debut album, Introducing Amy Jack and why?

I have to say “My Favorite Memory” which Merle wrote. The song always had such a big impact on me and so many others. It’s such a beautiful track and so eloquently captures what it means to have a favorite memory.

Take a listen to Amy Jack’s debut record, Introducing Amy Jack, which happens to be one of the last producing projects of GRAMMY Award winning artist, Merle Haggard. You may have already heard tracks from the record used by the Olympic Committee, Fox Sports, or ESPN where they fittingly set the mood for your favorite sporting event!
