Theory (of a Deadman): Lakeside Casino, Osceola, IA - Photo Review
The popular Canadian rock band, undergoing a change of name and direction, brought its tour to Iowa, filling the event center of Lakeside Casino on November 2.
The setlist included both well-known hits, like “Bitch Came Back” and “Santa Monica,” and new material, in particular, “History of Violence,” the band’s fresh single released in September. “History of Violence” is touching upon the topic of domestic abuse and is part of the new, darker and more serious direction the musicians are exploring. Previously, Theory had been mostly staying away from social issues in their music, but now that the band is 18, they are bringing attention to the not-so-pretty side of life, holding mirror to society’s wounds and scars.
Theory’s cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” was another nice surprise for the fans, beginning as a sad ballad with only Tyler on the keyboard, later joined by the entire band for a powerful culmination.
The band’s new album, Say Nothing, is coming on January 31, 2020. Theory will play a show in Flint, MI, on November 5, after which they will continue the tour in Europe, returning to the States in December for the last show of the year in Biloxi, MS, on the 13th.
